Student Ethics & Safety
Incite Literacy follows the highest global standards for youth online safety. This document explains what that means and provides resources for parents who want to understand the frameworks that guide our approach.
The Standards We Follow
We draw from three leading global frameworks for AI ethics and youth digital safety:
- European Union GDPR & Digital Services Act — The world’s strongest data privacy protections for children
- Singapore’s AI in Education Ethics Framework — A government-developed model for responsible AI use in learning
- UNESCO Guidelines for AI in Education — International standards for ethical, equitable, and safe AI integration
These aren’t just inspirations—they’re the foundations of how we operate.
EU Privacy Regulations: What This Means for Your Child
The European Union has established the most comprehensive data privacy protections for minors in the world. While Incite Literacy operates in the US, we voluntarily adopt EU-level standards because they represent best practices.
Key Principles We Follow
Privacy by Default
- Student accounts and work are private unless explicitly shared
- No public profiles, no automatic sharing, no location tracking
- Students control what they share and with whom
Minimal Data Collection
- We collect only what’s necessary for learning
- No selling or sharing of student data with third parties
- Clear explanation of any data we do collect
Parental Visibility
- Parents/guardians of minors can review all student work
- Transparent about how AI tools are used
- No hidden data collection or tracking
Age-Appropriate Design
- Content and interactions designed for the stated age ranges
- Risk assessments for all AI-integrated activities
- Clear boundaries between educational use and entertainment

Singapore’s AI Education Framework: What This Means for Your Child
Singapore’s Ministry of Education developed an AI in Education Ethics Framework that has become a global model. Their approach emphasizes that AI should enhance learning without replacing human judgment or widening educational inequalities.
The Four Principles We Adopt
Agency
“AIEd systems should preserve students’ and teachers’ choice and control over important personal and professional decisions.”
At Incite Literacy, this means:
- Students make their own decisions about their work
- AI assists thinking—it never replaces it
- Learners maintain control over how and when they use AI tools
- Critical thinking is developed, not outsourced
Inclusivity
“Every child can learn and achieve.”
At Incite Literacy, this means:
- Accessible pricing so background doesn’t determine access
- Multiple pathways through projects based on interests and needs
- No AI tools that disadvantage particular groups of students
- Support for different learning styles and paces
Fairness
“AIEd systems must operate without bias and with accuracy.”
At Incite Literacy, this means:
- Transparency about when and how AI is used
- Teaching students to recognize AI bias and limitations
- Encouraging verification of AI-generated information
- Honest about what AI can and cannot do
Safety
“Learners’ interests, privacy and well-being should be protected.”
At Incite Literacy, this means:
- Secure handling of any student data
- Clear procedures for reporting concerns
- Protection against negative psychological impacts
- Regular safety reflections built into every project

UNESCO Guidelines: What This Means for Your Child
UNESCO—the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization—has developed comprehensive guidance for AI in education that prioritizes human rights, equity, and learner protection.
Core UNESCO Principles We Follow
Human-Centered AI
“AI in education must be human-centered, equitable, safe, and ethical.”
Technology serves learning—not the other way around. Every AI integration at Incite Literacy is evaluated for whether it genuinely helps learners grow.
Age-Appropriate Use UNESCO recommends considering age limits for independent GenAI use (suggesting 13+ for unsupervised interaction). We:
- Provide age-appropriate guidance for all projects
- Include parent notes for sensitive content
- Build in supervision structures for younger learners
- Teach responsible AI interaction before independent use
Data Privacy Protection UNESCO emphasizes that the rapid release of AI tools has left “data privacy of users unprotected.” We address this by:
- Teaching privacy protection as a core skill
- Never requiring students to share personal information with AI
- Providing anonymization strategies for all AI interactions
Equity and Access
“Policies must promote equitable and inclusive access to AI and the use of AI as a public good.”
This is why we price Incite Literacy accessibly. Critical thinking and AI literacy shouldn’t be privileges reserved for wealthy families.

How We Put These Standards Into Practice
Every Project Includes:
AI Safety Training Before any AI interaction, learners complete our AI Safety Guide, which teaches:
- Privacy protection (never share personal information)
- Fact verification (always check AI claims)
- Voice preservation (AI enhances your ideas, doesn’t replace them)
- Critical evaluation (question everything AI says)
Weekly Safety Reflections Each week, learners document:
- How they protected their privacy while using AI
- What they verified independently
- When they disagreed with AI suggestions
- What they learned about AI limitations
Clear Boundaries
- Real names and identity verification within learning groups (for accountability)
- Anonymous interaction with AI tools (for privacy)
- Optional public sharing (always with explicit permission)
- Parent/guardian access to all work (for minors)
Our Commitments to Parents
- Transparency — You can see everything your child creates and how they interact with AI
- No Hidden Tracking — We don’t collect data beyond what’s necessary for learning
- No Third-Party Sharing — Student data is never sold or shared
- Age-Appropriate Content — Clear guidance and parent notes for mature themes
- Open Communication — Questions and concerns are always welcome
Your Rights as a Parent
Under the standards we follow, you have the right to:
- Access — See all of your child’s work and AI interactions
- Information — Know exactly what data we collect and why
- Correction — Request changes to any incorrect information
- Deletion — Request removal of your child’s data
- Objection — Opt out of specific data processing activities
To exercise any of these rights, contact us through our Learn More page.
Questions Parents Often Ask
How do I know my child is using AI safely? Every project includes documented AI interactions and safety reflections. Ask your child to show you their work and explain how they used AI as a thinking partner.
What if my child shares personal information with AI? We train students never to share personal information. If this happens, the AI doesn’t store conversation data permanently, and we teach students to close conversations immediately if they feel uncomfortable.
Can AI tools access my child’s other data? No. We teach students to use AI tools without connecting personal accounts, and we never require login to third-party AI services that would access other data.
How do you handle sensitive topics? Projects involving mature themes include parent notes with specific content warnings. Parents and students should review these together before beginning.
What if I disagree with how AI is being used? We welcome this conversation. Our approach is transparent—if you have concerns about specific AI integrations, contact us. We’re committed to responsible use and value parent input.
The Bottom Line
We believe AI literacy is essential for the future—but not at the cost of safety, privacy, or human judgment.
By following the highest global standards from the EU, Singapore, and UNESCO, we ensure that learners develop AI skills responsibly, with appropriate protections, and with full transparency for families.
Your child isn’t just learning to use AI. They’re learning to lead it—safely, ethically, and critically.
